It’s not that intent cannot create results without action; rather meaningful action cannot exist without intent.

However, purely focused intent attracts movement, as well as (in addition to) causing it. This, I believe, is the very basis of the law of attraction – which is simply that like attracts like – and it goes well beyond the direct result of any particular action.

Everything is composed of energy-matter, the two being interchangeable, and exists in a continuous state of varying frequency and amplitude of vibration.

One of the simplest examples of the law of attraction is Sympathetic Resonance. If we strike a key on a piano, the strings of that note will vibrate in an excited state at the frequency they’re tuned to – carrying the vibration to our ears, which we experience as sound.

In fact, not only the strings that were directly impacted by the hammer of the key we struck will be excited, but the strings of every similar note on the piano will be excited also. For instance, strike an A key on the piano, and every A string on the piano will resonate simultaneously. Not only that, but the A strings on any other instrument within range will also be excited, as will any other object tuned to that same frequency.

Thus, not only did the action of striking a specific key on the piano cause its strings to create sound for us directly, but it attracted all other sympathetic objects within range to resonate in perfect harmony, including the various parts of our body – especially, the inner ear – which in turn causes the same frequency of nerve impulses and the same frequency of thought vibration that our brain will now interpret as sound. All of this activity was caused by the single action of striking a key on the piano keyboard, born of the intent that we would hear the corresponding sound.

Taken in reverse – the composer, intending to create music, organizes his thoughts to the frequencies of sounds that seem appealing to him, which he essentially hears or experiences directly in his mind. He then might record the sequence of vibrations as notes on a page, which other musicians, intending now to recreate the work for all to hear, perform the necessary action to excite the corresponding vibration of their instruments, ultimately transmitting the thought vibration to the minds of the listeners, who now all experience the sound of his music simultaneously.

The notes recorded on the page were a shorthand kind of blueprint for other musicians to interpret the previous thoughts of the composer, which they could then amplify using their instruments in order for others to have a similar experience, having received the amplified reproduction as sound vibrations throughout body and mind.

All of this work of creation having resulted from the harmonious intentions of composer, musician, and listener, by way of their corresponding actions and the resulting impacts of those actions. And, by the same token, listener is attracted to musician, who is attracted to composer, who is attracted to music or vibration of a particular nature & character, and thus we see a simple example of the law of attraction in action.

But thought itself is energy, and is nowise limited to the constraints of the host’s (thinker’s) mind or body. Thought is measurable outside and away from the body, even by carefully designed scientific instruments, crude as they may be, and travels at the speed of light, which is of course exponentially faster than sound, and is unencumbered by the physical limitations of sound. In other words both light and thought are able to reach us instantaneously from tremendous distances, whereas sound waves, in addition to being slow are also very limited in how far they can travel before being completely absorbed.

By the same principals, the thoughts we think are resonating throughout our bodies and throughout the rest of creation, so that we attract like minded beings, and via sympathetic resonance, impact the rest of creation by our thoughts, in varying degrees, corresponding to the strength, clarity, and focus of our intent – all of which is part and parcel to the law of attraction and the laws of success, in my view.

In the fall, they say, even a blind squirrel can find an acorn to eat. During the amazing harvest we’ve enjoyed these past years, even those turning a blind eye to sound business practices were able to get along just fine – perhaps even prosper.

But we’re moving into a whole different phase of the cycle, and blind success just isn’t going to hold up anymore – not for quite some time to come.

In truth, we’ve not yet hit a recession, nor will we before the year is over – but I’m confident it’s a coming, and it’s going to be a doosy.

Are you ready? Do you have a plan? Will you ride the wave, or wipe out?

Over the next ten years, many leading thinkers believe we’ll experience a Tsunami of turbulent change and economic upheaval unparalleled in modern history. There’s lots to explore on this topic, but for our purposes, let’s consider the most expedient unknowns—how long before the major impact hits, and who will be left standing at the end of the cycle?

Simply put, there’s not a lot of time left to make the needed course corrections, if you want to survive the coming economic shifts.

Have you been enjoying the long & abundant harvest so much you forgot winter would come? Or worse — have you been struggling through the tail end of the recent economic boom, and now you’ve got to somehow weather the coming storm?

Know this: the pains we’re feeling today are likely a precursor to more intense struggles to come. In my opinion, we probably have at best a 1 to 2 years reprieve before moving headlong into a major recession. Perhaps another 10 years before we see the next economic boom.

Remember the Jimmy Carter era recession?

>>> Double-digit interest rates…
>>> Double-digit inflation…
>>> Double-digit unemployment…
>>> High gas prices …
>>> Gas shortages…
>>> Credit crunch …
>>> Real estate crash …

According to Alan Greenspan – double-digit interest rates are unavoidable in the near future. Have you been relying on debt to finance your business? If so, consider the impact of double digit interest, and no additional credit to cover your subsequent growing shortfall. Are you in position to handle this eventuality?

Most experts agree, regardless of who takes office, taxes are going to skyrocket. It’s mathematically impossible to sustain the current and growing budget deficit on yesterday’s tax cuts. The coming hikes may vary by degree based on who wins the White House, but the choices are high increases or even higher increases. How will you manage this eventuality?

As the Boomers look to retirement, I believe many will find the recent scandalous & shameful financial travesty will have wiped out their nest eggs, leaving them scrambling for any low end job they can get — just to try and keep a roof over their heads. Unemployment rates and social needs will hit their all time highs, and social services will plumb new depths.

Those who plan carefully now and take aggressive action stand a fighting chance of surviving – maybe even thriving – and when the next boom hits, they’ll run laps around their competition (before most people will have even realized things have turned around)…

…For the rest – expect to see countless businesses fail, many others just dragging by.

But it’s not all doom & gloom; you can survive and even thrive with the right attitude, a solid plan, and by continually adjusting course.

Here are some basic rules to live by (inspired by my friend Dan Kennedy):

Keep your wits about you, and your will & passion to win, even while many around you will be losing theirs…

Have the intellectual agility to quickly modify, re-package, re-invent, and re-articulate your offerings to harmonize with the dominant desires, fears, and beliefs of the times…

Concentrate your efforts on better & more likely buyers (especially those least and last to be effected by the recession).

Knuckle down and work harder & more diligently to optimize the value of every customer and every lead you can get your hands on…

Leave no stone unturned in your quest to develop and fortify your selling abilities, your business skills, and your planning & execution ability. Continuous training and study is more important now than ever…

Call on an expert or experts to guide you in analyzing your current business situation and making course corrections. Positive cash flow will be imperative- Don’t wait until the major squeeze is on to look for assistance, or you might have waited too long…

Don’t stop investing in Marketing! But make certain you have a defined strategy & plan that’s geared to the times – and know the ROI (Return on Investment) for every initiative you undertake.

Friends, now is not the time to stand around wondering what the economy is going to do, or for debating whether or not a recession is eminent. It’s a time for careful consideration & planning, aggressive, dogged, determined action, and the irrepressible will to succeed. You can do it!

As Fall looms on the horizon, many businesses are gearing-up (or hunkering down) for their annual budget and forecasting ritual. Sadly, far too many businesses are not!

In a recent informal survey I conducted of 7 small businesses, exactly one was working toward a formal budgeting and forecasting process, and it was something he was attempting for the first time in 11 years of operation!

Now, as a serial entrepreneur myself, I fully understand and appreciate the incredible challenges faced by managers of small businesses, and the many ways you can explain not having a regular formal planning process. But, as a business success coach, I can confidently report that one of the most important factors in the continuing success of your business is your annual planning process!

Think about it. There’s a reason the very first thing venture capitalists and banks ask for is your business plan! In fact, according to success guru Brian Tracy, failure to plan is the #1 cause of business failure.

Perhaps you’re already enjoying a certain level of success without doing an annual plan. Maybe you’re struggling so hard to keep up with the daily demands of business that it’s hard to find the time; or maybe you’re not really sure how to go about it, so you just keep putting it off…

No matter what your situation, you can make this the year your business really takes off, reaching heights you’ve only dreamed of in years past! And as you do, you can bank on the fact that your enjoyment and satisfaction with your business and your life will likewise soar!

I challenge you to commit now that you’ll do whatever it takes over the next couple of months to create and implement a definite plan for your business, based on a well thought out budget and forecast.

Here are 7 actions to get started immediately!

Decide right now, that you’re going to create and implement a thoughtful business plan this year, and refuse to fail in this resolve.

Schedule times on your calendar, right now, when you’re committed to working on your business, rather than in your business – each and every week. Until you do this, you don’t really have a business, you only have a very expensive job!

Become a ‘numbers person’. Most entrepreneurs are not naturally numbers people. They thrive on being visionaries, meeting people, negotiating, etc. But if you really want to succeed, you’ve got to become a numbers person! It’s fine to hire professionals to help with your bookkeeping & accounting, etc., but you cannot delegate total responsibility in these areas and expect to have lasting success.

Carefully consider, and write down as succinctly as you can, what business you’re really in. In other words, describe the benefit you’re customers get from your product or service, rather than identifying what the product or service is.

For instance: Nobody buys ‘Insurance’; they buy ‘Piece of Mind’; and people don’t go to McDonalds, for a hamburger, they go because they want ‘cheap, ultra fast food that they know will be the same every time’, or because their kids want the happy meal toy.

Setup or hire someone to setup QuickBooks for you, if you haven’t already, and then learn the basics of its operations. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have easy access to many reports that can tell you exactly what’s going on in your business – by the numbers.

Pull a detailed P&L (Profit & Loss) Statement from your QuickBooks in Excel spreadsheet format, and go through the following steps at minimum.

Make certain you understand the total costs associated with every product or service you provide, the sales price, and profits from each.

Make note of expected increases in costs do to rising gas prices and other economic factors

Practice zero-based thinking on every line item. That is, ask yourself this question: If I knew what I know now, when I started doing XYZ, would I start that activity again today?
If the answer is no, then the next questions are ‘How do I get out of this activity, and how fast!’

Now that you have a good understanding of where you are, go through each line and determine where you want to be next year. Consider any new products or services you might add, or how you’re going to focus on selling more of the ones you already have. In other words, make a plan!

And once your new budget & plan are in place, be sure to review them at least quarterly (preferably monthly) and make adjustments to your plan, your activities, or both. Soon you’ll gain a sense of control over your business outcomes that will amaze and delight you, and then, the sky’s the limit!

Here’s a great little post I tripped over tonight, telling the truth about the so-called recession. “The News Media Who Cried Wolf”

Apparently 8 out of 10 Americans have been conned into believing we’re in a recession, according to a recent Wall Street Journal poll, but the numbers simply disprove any such notion. We’re not in a recession, and we won’t be in one at least for the rest of this year.

Further research turns up several interesting facts…From wikipedia:
“…According to widespread definition, a recession occurs when real growth is negative for two or more successive quarters of a year.”

And, guess what? According to this wikipedia article, there hasn’t been a period of negative economic growth across the US since 2001 (Sorry I don’t have the Canadian numbers).

In fact, during the past 30 years, there have been just 4 periods of recession in the USA, each lasting an average of 11 months. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recession

In contrast to the media’s ‘recession’ chants, during 2007 and throughout 2008 nearly every state economy has grown! The rate of growth has slowed down, but there’s nothing that remotely looks like a recession.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis “in 2007 national economic growth slowed to 2.0% – a drop of 1 point from the years 2002-2006.”

“[only] Three states—Delaware, Michigan, and New Hampshire—saw their economies contract in 2007. …Construction– and finance–related industries were largely responsible for the weakness. In Delaware, the decline was primarily due to a large decline in finance and insurance, and secondarily due to a decline in construction. In Michigan and New Hampshire, declines in these industries and in real estate, rental, and leasing were largely responsible for the decreases in real GDP…

…Utah had the fastest economic growth in 2007 (5.3 percent), growing at more than twice the national rate. Durable goods manufacturing, retail trade, and real estate, rental, and leasing led the way in Utah, accounting for more than half the state’s growth. New York was the only eastern state among the ten fastest–growing states. Contrary to the nation and most states, finance and insurance was a strong contributor to growth in New York. Finance and insurance along with real estate, rental, and leasing accounted for 53 percent of New York’s growth.”

Note: Historically, there have been 32 cycles of economic contraction & expansion over the past 154 years. On average, 17 months of contraction followed by 38 months of expansion.

And, finally…
Check out the chart at the bottom of this page… which shows the US Gross Domestic Growth month by month from 2006, and forecasts continual growth through the end of 2008.

Ok, so further to my previous post…

Here I am several days later, and a number of key priorities have not been accomplished on schedule. How can this be? Is dragging the trash can out to the curb on time more important than all of the success activities on my list? No way! So – obviously I’m missing something.

Urgency is one of the cardinal keys to success. This is talked about repeatedly by nearly all success gurus, and demonstrated by nearly all high achieving individuals. So where is mine?

Obviously, the prospect of missing the garbage pick-up created an immediate and clear sense of urgency that literally propelled me out of bed the other day, had me whirling around the house emptying garbage and recycling containers, and dragging the whole lot up the long driveway to the curb. And the adrenalin rush and momentum continued on to promote a pretty successful day – in terms of number of items accomplished.

So how do I replicate that same sense of urgency for the infinitely more important daily tasks that will propel me to the heights of success I desire and am capable of achieving? When I find the answer to this question – and fully implement it / make it a habit – that’s when success is bound to happen faster than I ever dreamed possible!

This will be my quest for the merry month of May.

If you have any tips or stories about what has worked for you – Please share!!!

The certain road to success demands Action, perhaps more than anything else.

Consistent, habitual, massive, passionate, urgent, Action! If you’ve got that, sooner or later, you’re bound to succeed. The law of cause and effect guarantees it.

Yet, so often we get caught up in just thinking about it. Endlessly pondering our situation, our probable courses of action, or just thinking about random stuff or trivia that doesn’t even apply to our success, but lulls us along the path of mediocrity as we’re shuffled hither and yon by the whims of fate.

So how can I be certain to start every day with purposeful action? How do I maintain focus, dedication, and a sense of urgency to ensure each day – and throughout each day – that I’m consistently taking action toward success and not just thinking about it?

10 minutes ago, I was lying in bed contemplating the day ahead when the answer came to me…

I’m just lying there — calmly wondering what I should do for sure today, in which order and so forth, when suddenly everything changes…

In an instant, I throw off the covers and bound into action! The passion that’s driving me now is of singular purpose. It no longer matters what time it is. The lingering warmth and softness I enjoyed while cuddling my wife is erased from consciousness.

The ambient temperature is now of zero concern. What time is it? Am I hungry? Is it cold outside? Should I lay in bed a few more minutes? What should I do first – second – third? For how long? Why? None of this matters anymore. The only thing that matters now is ACTION! Fast, and sure…

…So what happened? How did I go from ruminating on the various possible uses of the day –teetering on the edge of uncertainty– to bursting with energy? Driven forth by passion, purpose, and clarity!

The secret? As I lay there in quiet contemplation –exactly one piece of information came floating by that changed the course of my entire day –setting in motion a chain reaction of hormones, accelerated heart rate, and primal fight or flight activity that ultimately has me sitting here, banging away at my keyboard and accomplishing one of my top priorities of the day (blogging), without regard for anything else.

The critical piece of information? It suddenly dawned on me that today is garbage day! Yep – that’s the magic bullet that ignited my passion and sent me into a flurry of activity with one purpose only. I absolutely had to get the trash gathered up, in the can, and out to the curb within a matter of seconds, or I was going to miss the opportunity for another whole week!

See, I usually take the trash out on Wed nights in order to predictably meet the 7am deadline for pick up week after week. But last night I forgot to do it –so I could either get the trash out to the curb right now, like pronto quicko, or I was going to be stuck in an unpleasant situation until next Thursday –and I flat out didn’t want that to happen.

Boom! All the important and careful considerations of life purpose swallowed up in an instant realization that the garbage truck is heading up the street and my trash isn’t out yet!

So what’s the point? Is garbage day really more important than all of my life goals and everything else I might accomplish during my short stay here on the planet? Does taking the trash out even compare to any one thing I might accomplish in a single day?

But of all the important things I could have been doing at that moment -taking out the trash was the thing I valued enough at that moment – with enough urgency – to propel me out of bed and into action without so much as another thought.

And somewhere in there, my friend, lies the key to success. Somehow, I’ve got to find or create a system to virtually guarantee my consistent, pointed, urgent, focused, action – every single day – all day long. Put that into play, stay with it, and my success is all but certain!

As I sit before you today, I’m reinventing myself. Its a beautiful thing to do – reinventing self, and its been one of my favorite modus operandi some few decades, or so.

This blog and (soon) other parts of http://suddenleap.com, will capture snapshots of process and journey, which ultimately may interest only me.

But after all, my true hope is, some soul – somewhere – will ever find an uplift here; or perhaps a crucial piece of encouragement.. engagement.. or information that will arrive just-in-time and prove useful in their own evolutionary quest.

My current plan is to blog or otherwise improve this site at least 5 times a week.

Everything else is up for grabs –we’ll see what develops.

alrighty, then –let’s achieve lift-off!
